Waitrose: have a discount on the items you choose

Shop Way of consumption

Having discounts when grocery shopping is already great, but what if you could choose the discounted items yourself? Thanks to Waitrose, it's possible and it's a huge success.

We've been waiting for this, obviously. Making the most of discounts and special offers is always a good deal, considering the items are on your shopping list. But sometimes you may buy something you don't really need just because it's cheaper for a few days. The great news comes from Waitrose: they're giving us both discounts, and control. Since last week and for the first time ever in the grocery industry, customers can apply a 20 per cent reduction on the products they choose, not the ones the supermarket commands. And it's been a revelation, apparently: the Waitrose's website crashed for a while because so many people wanted to participate to the "Pick your own offers" promotion.

Joining this loyalty program is really simple. The first step is being -or becoming- a myWaitrose member. Then, as explained my Waitrose:

  • Customers can sign up to Waitrose.com or log on to their Waitrose.com account and choose ten products for a 20 per cent discount and make their initial selection online.
  • Once confirmed, the customer’s selection then remains fixed for a set period. First selections will remain in place until the end of summer.
  • Each time the customer buys their selected products in store or online, the 20 per cent discount will be automatically applied.
  • For this to happen, the customer’s myWaitrose card must be swiped in store, and linked to their Waitrose.com account online.
  • Customers who sign up for the scheme by July 7th 2015 will receive £6 off a £60 shop.

The 10 products are to be selected from a list of a thousand items. Besides, this program won't deprive you of the other Waitrose offers that may occur.
