Warehouse construction, store openings and job creation: Poundworld has a big agenda for the next three years. According to Poundworld's announcement, the warehouse construction should be finished by the autumn of 2016. This brand new 524,000 sq ft distribution centre will be located in Normanton, Wakefield, where the retailer already has its head office. Along with it comes the creation of at least 300 new jobs.
A second source of job creation is the 200 new stores that Poundworld plans to open nationwide within the next three years. This will make a total count of 500 locations for the discounter and therefore add 3,500 to 4,000 new employees to its payroll. This expansion projects were revealed after TPG, a US investment company, bought a controlling share of Poundworld for around £150m. "Our new distribution centre will improve efficiency and allow us to offer our customers even more amazing products, increasing the variety in our stores" said Chris Edwards, Poundworld's founder and chief executive.
