Fans of skateboarding will soon be able to share the pleasure of gliding with their children, from an early age. The Longboardstroller - a stroller at the front of a skateboard - will soon be on sale by the brand, Quinny.

You often see young children installed at the rear of their parent's bikes, but seeing them out for a walk perched on a skateboard seems much more perilous. Nevertheless, the company, Quinny, specialised in the design of pushchairs, has developed a new model, that should please fans of gliding sports.

The Longboardstroller looks like a real longboard but integrates a stroller at the front of the skateboard. Securely attached and comfortable, the child benefits from gliding sensations in total safety, and sometimes even before he knows how to walk properly. Suitable for children from 1 year up to 15 kilos, this stroller that supports the weight of a 100-kilo adult is not only destined for skateboarding pros.

The skateboard is a lot easier to use than a normal longboard, offering the possibility for beginners to use it without prior training. More like a 4 wheel scooter, it allows the adult to support himself on the stroller and turn by swinging the weight of his body from one side or other of the board. A brake handle is also available on the pushchair frame. It folds and therefore is as easy to store as a scooter and less bulky than most pushchairs.

Use with protective gear

Whilst the company explains that safety has been its "main preoccupation during development" of this product, it insists on the fact that safety protection (helmet, knee and elbow pads) must be worn by the child and adult. However, parents can be reassured, a blocking system triggers if the adult falls off. It detects the absence of weight and stops the wheels. The Longboardstroller was designed to be used only with the child seat and cannot be converted into a standard longboard. The board does not enable you to do stunts or be used in a skatepark.

In its final development phase, this made-in-Europe stroller should be sold during 2015. Whilst the exact date is not yet known, the manufacturer's website displays the Longboardstroller at a price of 599 euros.
