Leicester (LE1)

Pronounced “lester”, Leicester is a city found along the midlands of England. It is located right next to the M1 motorway and has access to Midland Main Line railway. It is one of the oldest cities in England dating all the way back to 200 years during the Roman times. The city centre is of Victorian origin with modern developments smoothly integrated. The Castle Park area is full of gateways, churches and beautiful buildings of old Leicester. The haunted medieval Guildhall is located here along with a statue of King Richard III. The city has a population of about 280,000 inhabitants.

The major industries in Leicester are food-processing, footwear, hosiery, electronics, engineering, plastics and printing. The city center is lined with a mix of unique boutiques and high street names and the Highcross Leicester shopping mall puts many stores under one roof. Along St. Martin’s Square and Leicester Lanes are independent shops and trendy outlets. Belgrave Road, which is north of the city center, is famous for its Asian shops that sell attractive sarees and enticing spices. In the south, Stoneygate is famous for a cluster of galleries and independent outlets that offer designer name products and exclusives. Along Fosse Park are the large chain stores offering a great range of goods.
